Kozhikode district plans to open 12 respite care centres for differently abled people under the Social Justice department's 'Anbu Veedu' project, with at least one centre in each block.
The centres will temporarily accommodate people with autism, intellectual disabilities, neuro-developmental disorders, and bedridden patients for up to seven days when their caregivers need a break, with extensions up to a month possible with special permission.
They will also offer daycare, shelter for abandoned persons, and entry-home facilities housing 25 to 30 individuals.
The department has invited expression of interest from approved institutions, local bodies, care homes, and families to join the initiative.
