A special NIA court in Delhi has allowed Matthew Aaron Van Dyke, a U.S. national accused in a terror conspiracy case, to receive a protein-rich, American-style diet in jail.
He had been on a hunger strike for nearly 50 days, surviving mainly on liquids, after saying he could not eat the oily and spicy prison food, and had lost around 13 kg.
The court allowed the food items he sought except non-vegetarian items, and directed jail authorities to appoint a cook to prepare his meals, with his counsel to supervise a trial meal at the jail.
Van Dyke was arrested in March 2026 along with six Ukrainian nationals, whom the NIA alleges entered India on tourist visas and were involved in training ethnic armed organisations across the Myanmar border.
