Construction of an ₹8.5 crore Tangedco 33/11 KV electricity sub-station has begun in Yelagiri Hills in Tirupattur district, nearly a decade after it received administrative sanction in 2018.
The project was initially approved at ₹3.5 crore, stalled, and revived in January 2026 with a revised estimate of ₹8.5 crore, with a foundation stone laid in March.
Officials say the sub-station, expected to be ready in 2027, will address frequent power shutdowns and fluctuations affecting around 5,286 consumers, including hotels, resorts, and farmers, and reduce reliance on diesel generators.
It is also intended to cut delays in fault repairs that came from depending on the Vaniyambadi office about 30 km away, and to support domestic tourism in the hill station.
