Sri Sathya Sai Superintendent of Police S. Satish Kumar said police will conduct regular crackdowns on drunk driving, public drinking and other anti-social activities to make the district crime-free and safe.
In the past six months, police registered 364 drunk driving cases, of which 254 were charge-sheeted with penalties of ₹25.40 lakh, which the SP called among the highest enforcement levels in the State.
Four habitual or serious offenders were remanded to judicial custody, driving licences of eight repeat violators were suspended, and 2,248 public drinking cases drew fines of ₹8,56,400.
The SP urged the public to obey traffic rules and avoid drunk driving.
