Hyderabad City Police have asked residents to verify the credentials of domestic workers before hiring them, after 565 theft cases involving domestic help were registered in the last two years, including 65 grave offences.
Police said most incidents happened because employers skipped background checks or police verification, with Jubilee Hills recording the most cases at 173.
IT professionals, elderly people living alone and students were common victims, and in some cases gangs from other States allegedly posed as domestic workers to commit thefts.
The police advised collecting identity documents, photographs and addresses, obtaining free police verification at local stations, and reporting suspicious activity on 100 or a WhatsApp helpline.
