- Ontario Provincial Police have broken up a large drug smuggling network in Canada, arresting 19 people, most of them of Indian origin, and seizing 1.7 tons of narcotics valued at 930 crore rupees.
- The investigation began after information surfaced that the network was moving drugs into Canada through commercial routes, leading to 22 searches of homes and business offices in Windsor, Corunna and other locations between June 25 and July 20.
- The seizure included 973 kg of cocaine, 660 kg of methamphetamine, 49 kg of opium, 230 oxycodone pills, 17 weapons, cash in Canadian and US dollars, jewellery, money-counting machines, 43 mobile phones, six laptops and a vehicle.
- Most of those arrested were truck drivers hired to smuggle goods illegally along the Canada–US border.
