- The Railway Protection Force has opened an investigation into the defacing of a Hindi name board at Coimbatore North railway station and booked two suspects under three sections of the Railways Act.
- The two men, allegedly members of Aathi Thamizhar Peravai, climbed to the terrace around 1.40 a.m. on Sunday, smeared paint over the Hindi station name, and one photographed the act; videos circulated widely by morning.
- Station authorities removed the defaced board as well as the Tamil and English boards on either side of the porch, prompting a planned protest by Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam to be withdrawn.
- The boards had been installed a few weeks earlier as part of renovation works, and police have identified one suspect from videos while searching for the other.
