Three bonded labourers were rescued from a farm at Kalasthambadi village near Chengam in Tiruvannamalai district on Sunday, September 13, 2026.
The rescued persons are K. Viji, 25, his wife V. Sasikala, 23, his brother K. Surya, 19, and the couple has a one-year-old daughter.
Officials found the family working under inhuman conditions for the past few years after Collector Vandana Garg directed Revenue Department officials and the police to act on information received.
Landlord B. Jayamani, 52, had roped in the workers with advances of ₹8,000-₹10,000 to work on five acres of farmland, where they were made to work over 15 hours a day, denied proper drinking water and toilets, and beaten if they rested or drank water.
The rescued persons were given release certificates that will help them receive financial aid and access government schemes.
