The Indian Army has rescued 571 people in flood-hit upper Assam under Operation Jal Rahat, which began on 19 July 2026 after continuous monsoon rains caused the Brahmaputra and its tributaries to swell and submerge villages.
Three relief teams of 45 soldiers each were deployed in Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Jorhat, working with the Assam government and local administration.
Using motorboats, engineering equipment, and emergency medical supplies, soldiers moved children, the elderly, and stranded residents to safe locations and provided relief material.
