The Department of Mines and Geology has suspended all grey granite mining activities in Mayasandra village, Devanahalli, until further orders.
The action follows allegations that mining on 2 acres 23 guntas of land encroached on a storm water drain connecting to a lake, blocking its natural water flow with soil, stone and mining waste.
The Deputy Commissioner recorded in a report that this could harm public interest and environmental balance, and directed the department to stop mining immediately.
The move came after a Prajavani report prompted a suo motu complaint by the upalokayukta and a separate Lokayukta complaint filed by K.N.
Chiranjeevi, with a hearing held on July 29.
