Heavy rain in the Malenadu region has pushed the inflow into the Tungabhadra river past 90,000 cusecs, with the Singatalur lift irrigation scheme barrage recording 90,970 cusecs on Monday and releasing 90,500 cusecs after opening its gates.
Flood fears have risen for riverside villages, and water has entered fields in Banimmatti and Nandigavi villages, submerging about 50 acres of marigold, maize, paddy and cowpea crops.
Farmers report that some motor pump sets on the riverbank have been submerged and pipes have floated away.

Gurubasavaraj said the flood situation is being monitored and village and agriculture officials will visit the affected fields to inspect the damage.
