Farmers from the Krishna delta, under the Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham, protested near Eluru on Sunday demanding immediate release of irrigation water.
Their leader alleged the government first assured water from June 15 and encouraged paddy nurseries, but is now advising against paddy cultivation despite good inflows into the Krishna and Godavari rivers.
Farmers say they have already spent Rs. 10,000–15,000 per acre on nurseries and transplanting, and warn that lack of water in both seasons could hurt livelihoods and trigger migration.
The group plans another protest at the Eluru Collectorate and threatens road blockades if demands are not met.
