Bank of Baroda has attributed a claimed data leak of about 1 terabyte of sensitive data, reportedly including customer Aadhaar details, on the dark net to a single employee's email account being compromised, not a failure of its core banking infrastructure.
The bank says its core banking systems were not accessed and customer funds and transactions remain secure.
It has started a forensic investigation, informed regulators, is working with cyber security agencies, and has filed a claim under its roughly Rs 750 crore cyber insurance programme led by National Insurance, with a per-policy loss limit of about Rs 300 crore.
The claim is currently logged as a preliminary notice since the forensic probe is ongoing.
