Officials opened all fifteen spillway gates of the Taliperu reservoir in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, Telangana, on Tuesday after the reservoir received its first notable inflow of the monsoon season, 9,679 cusecs, from the Taliperu river catchment along the Chhattisgarh border.
The move was to regulate inflows and release excess water downstream.
The water level stood at 73.65 metres, just below the Full Reservoir Level of 74 metres.
However, the Godavari and its other tributaries remained low due to deficient rainfall in upstream areas.
