A 22-year-old labourer died when part of a building being demolished collapsed on him in Belthangady.
The deceased has been identified as Zubair, son of Ali, a resident of Kodimbala village in Kadaba taluk.
The accident happened during clearance of a building belonging to the Belthangady Women Consumers Cooperative Society, for Punjalakatte–Charmadi national highway work.
Zubair was cutting a cement-filled rod on the top of the building when a portion fell on workers below.
He was rushed to Belthangady taluk hospital by locals but died by then.
A case has been registered at Belthangady police station.
