Students in Mumbai University's distance education programmes are protesting delayed first-semester results and very high failure rates, with Yuva Sena representatives demanding a review of the assessment process.
In first-year BCom, only 457 of 2,543 students passed, while in Arts only 460 of 2,224 cleared the exam, with results declared after four months instead of 45 days.
Students also complained of delayed study material, poor communication, and possible flaws in answer-sheet evaluation, while enrolment in the division has fallen from about 80,000 in 2022 to around 20,000 now.
The university says many failures were in only one or two subjects, students can still enter Semester II and clear failed subjects later, and ATKT exams begin on August 25.
