Candidates from the BJP, Congress, other parties and as Independents have begun filing nominations for mayoral and chairperson elections in 305 of Rajasthan's 309 urban local bodies, with 989 nominations listed so far.
These elections follow the earlier election of councillors and are scheduled for September 21, with deputy mayors, deputy chairpersons and vice-presidents to be elected on September 22.
The process has been deferred in four bodies — Jaipur, Jodhpur and Kota municipal corporations and Suket municipality — where re-polling was held at 10 polling stations on September 16 after EVM-related technical problems left some ward results undeclared.
