- Three members of a family from Karatagi — Mallikarjun Katigi (35), his wife Nagaveni (25) and their three-year-old son Santosh — died when a hill collapsed on the shed where labourers were living in Gandhinagar, Thirthahalli, Shivamogga district, early Sunday.
- The family had gone to Thirthahalli seeking work as labourers because of lack of rain, water and employment back home.
- Their joint last rites were held at Kakkargol village in Bannur gram panchayat on Monday, with the whole village present.
- The couple's two surviving daughters, aged 9 and 7, remain with relatives, who have appealed to the government and people's representatives to support the orphans' future.
