Heavy crowds and traffic were reported at Ganesh idol immersion points in Vijayawada on the third day of Ganesh Chaturthi festivities on Wednesday, September 16.
Around 150 idol immersions were expected at the Prakasam Barrage, where organisers from Vijayawada, Ibrahimpatnam, Mylavaram, Jaggayyapeta and other areas brought idols.
A team of about 10 sanitation workers was stationed at the Barrage to collect flowers and other puja materials for disposal.
Despite appeals by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, some people threw puja waste into the river, and workers collected 15 buckets of waste between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
The matter matters because the Bandar Canal near the Tadigadapa bridge was choked with Plaster of Paris idols and puja materials, raising pollution concerns.
