Thrissur District Collector Shikha Surendran has ordered an urgent road safety audit of national highways in the district after a fatal accident at Kaipamangalam that killed eight people.
A joint team from NHAI, police, the Motor Vehicles department and local bodies will inspect highways, focusing on hazards like potholes, waterlogging, poor lighting, careless dumping of construction materials, inadequate barricading and illegal parking, and must submit a report by September 9, 2026.
The audit will also check pedestrian and schoolchild safety and the structural stability of construction works.
Separately, the Motor Vehicles department will conduct a special inspection, local bodies have been told to audit roads in their areas, and police and the RTO have been directed to act strictly against illegal parking.
