Farmers from Yadihalli village in Harapanahalli, Karnataka have petitioned District Collector Kavita S. Mannikeri, saying a railway bridge being built near gate LC 63 on the Harihar-Kotturu railway line is scientifically unsound and has blocked their access to farmland.
The land is black cotton soil, and farmers fear soil collapse during the rains and obstruction to tractors and farm vehicles.
With paths to their fields closed during construction, farmers say they are forced to carry fertiliser, seeds and other inputs on their heads.
They have demanded an alternative route, an immediate site inspection by officials, and a halt to the work until then.
