A major fire destroyed the Renuka Oil Mill at West Mahe near Beypore in Kozhikode district, Kerala, late on Sunday night, causing an estimated loss of around ₹7 crore.
The blaze reportedly began at a firewood-operated copra drying unit and spread quickly due to large stocks of inflammable coconut oil and dried copra, also destroying a parked goods carrier.
No one was injured as the mill was not operational at the time, and more than 10 fire tenders took over eight hours to bring the fire fully under control.
Police are investigating the cause, with reports from the Electrical Inspectorate and Fire and Rescue Services expected soon.
