The government told Parliament that 310 of India's 651 predominantly agricultural districts are vulnerable to climate change, with 109 at very high risk, based on an ICAR assessment under the NICRA project using IPCC protocols.
The findings highlight threats from rising temperatures, erratic rainfall and extreme weather to crop production and food security.
The government has prepared District Agriculture Contingency Plans for all 651 districts and is promoting climate-resilient technologies and seeds, including 2,661 stress-tolerant varieties released between 2014 and 2024.
It did not, however, name the vulnerable districts in its reply.
