Researchers at the Central University of Kerala have received an Indian patent for a new multifunctional catalyst technology that can help convert biomass and petroleum-based feedstocks into cleaner fuels and other valuable chemicals.
The catalyst, a specially engineered zeolite material, combines acidic and redox properties in a single material, unlike conventional catalysts that typically perform only one function.
The innovation was developed by Prof. A. Sakthivel along with researchers Soumya B.N. and Nimisha N.P.
The work so far covers developing and patenting the material, and commercial fuel production using the technology has not yet begun.
