Authorities in Muzaffarnagar have banned hotels and roadside eateries on the Kanwar Yatra route from cooking or serving non-vegetarian food, and have also told them not to use onions and garlic, ahead of the yatra beginning July 30.
The Food Safety Department has started checking shops and eateries along the route, with six teams formed to inspect food items and ensure stale food and artificial colours are not used.
Eateries must display owners' details, licences, and QR codes for a food safety app, and cooks must wear gloves.
District authorities have also set standard rates for 21 essential items to prevent overcharging.
